The Voice coach Will.i.am is surprised to recognise one of the hopefuls during a blind audition - after realising he met her when she had a record deal with his friend Justin Timberlake's label.

And the meeting is etched in his memory as it took place at a YouTube event which had fortunately caused him to to miss staying at a hotel in Mumbai which was stormed during the terrorist attack in 2008.

Contestant Esmee Denters, 25, will be seen performing a version of the Coldplay hit Yellow during Saturday night's edition of the BBC1 talent show.

And when the coaches eventually see her, following her audition, Will immediately recognises the Danish-born hopeful who was previously signed to Timberlake's Tennman Records.

Will explained that he recalls the meeting because the YouTube event caused him to delay his visit to Mumbai, and caused him to miss being caught up in the outrage. He had been booked to stay at the Taj Mahal Palce Hotel which was stormed by gunmen causing heavy loss of life.

Despite her deal Denters - who now lives in London - failed to make it big and was hoping for a second crack at fame on The Voice, explaining to the panellists: "I just wanted to show you that after everything I still want it."

Her audition also left coach Ricky Wilson embarrassed after she mistook his comments as a chat-up line.

Kaiser Chiefs singer Wilson told her: "I'm at a disadvantage because I don't know you but after hearing you sing I feel I've known you all my life."

"You are very smooth," she responded, but added: "'My boyfriend is out there."

Wilson spluttered: "I'm not chatting you up."

Also featuring on Saturday's programme is Dene Michael who has performed with Black Lace, joining after they had their top 40 hits such as Superman and Agadoo, and replacing singer Alan Barton who left to join Smokie and died in 1995.
