It's no longer such a 'Bad Romance' for Lady Gaga after she announced her Valentine's Day engagement to Chicago Fire actor Taylor Kinney last night on Instagram.

Tongues started wagging when the 28 year-old performer was spotted out in a purple fur inconspicuously hiding her ring finger from paparazzi - sure to keep a 'Pokerface' before her big announcement that night.

She and her fiancé flashed her heart-shaped diamond engagement ring in a black and white photo, captioned with: "He gave me his heart on Valentine's Day, and I said YES!" The couple first met on the set of Gaga's video You and I in Nebraska in 2011 - in which Kinney was the eye candy - and they began dating a few months later, with a brief split in May 2012.

The pair celebrated the news over dinner and champagne with Gaga's parents at their Manhattan restaurant Joanne Trattoria on Saturday - and they didn't keep it a secret, as other diners in the place apparently revelled in the family's excitement. Kinney uploaded an Instagram photo of himself with his future bride with the caption: "she said YES on Valentine's Day!"

The rumour mill started turning in September last year, when 33 year-old Kinney was seen shopping for engagement rings. In response to the speculation, he voiced his adoration for his girlfriend of four years: "[She] is someone who's always in your corner, that believes in you and your work, and vice versa," the actor said. "You know, I love what she does and her work and music and charity. She inspires so many people including myself."

Lady Gaga also admitted in a recent interview with radio presenter Howard Stern that she believed Kinney was "the one." She added: "He is the right guy… How do we know? This feeling…" But in true Gaga fashion, the kooky popstar hastened to add: "If I get married, I'll be hanging out in a pickup truck at a David's Bridal while my stylist is screaming at me."

There is one wedding that we really wish we were invited to. Watch Lady Gaga's brilliant cover of Stevie Wonder's 'I Wish' from his all-star Grammy tribute concert last night:
