Meghan Trainor has faced backlash over her latest release Dear Future Husband for being sexist and reinforcing outdated 1950s gender stereotypes.
In the music video the 21 year old singer plays 'the perfect housewife' in a a latex skirt and apron while baking, scrubbing the kitchen floor in rubber gloves and flower arranging - before her man returns with flowers, pizza and diamonds for her.
Lyrics to her new song include the lines: "Cause if you'll treat me right I'll be the perfect wife - buying groceries, buying what you need."
She continues: "If you wanna get that special lovin', tell me I'm beautiful each and every night" and "You gotta know how to treat me like a lady, even when I'm acting crazy."
Trainor has divided fans as people took to Twitter to debate the music video.
Who cares if that new Meghan Trainor is sexist? Have these idiots never heard of Snoop Dogg or any rapper ever? #getsomeperspective

I know Meghan Trainor's music is suppose to sound all 1950's but it doesn't mean the lyrics have to be from that sexist era too

I feel like Meghan Trainor is a robot someone created to reinforce the patriarchy through the use of sexist propaganda

There isn't anything "sexist" about Dear Future Husband by Meghan Trainor. She's simply stating what SHE as her OWN woman would want.

Trainor is no stranger to controversy; she was accused of shaming thin women when she first released her controversial body positive hit All About That Bass, as it included the words "skinny b*****s" and continued "men like a little more booty to hold at night."
Critics argue that she focused on what men find attractive rather than inspiring body confidence in women of all shapes and sizes.
