Primal Scream will be named musical icons at the O2 Silver Clef Awards later this year.

Other winners include Rita Ora, who will be given the best female gong, and DJ and producer Mark Ronson who will be given the innovation award at the event.

They will all be expected at the ceremony, which is held in the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, on July 3.

Ora, who has a handful of number ones and recently appeared as a judge on The Voice, said: "I feel honoured to be receiving the Best Female Award at the O2 Silver Clef Lunch.

"It's great to be recognised by Nordoff Robbins, a charity which uses music to transform the lives of so many people."

Primal Scream, who released their ground-breaking Screamadelica album almost 25 years ago, said it was "a real honour" to be given the icon award.

The winners join acts including David Bowie, Sir Elton John and Kylie Minogue who have all been recognised at the annual event which raises money for the music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins.

Its chief executive Julie Whelan said: "It is because of events like the O2 Silver Clef Awards that Nordoff Robbins is able to continue to deliver essential music therapy services to vulnerable and isolated people across the UK.

"Since 1976, the event has brought together artists from all areas of the music industry, raising an incredible £8.5 million in the process."
