Marianne Gunn's verdict: five stars

When your support act is Pete Tong and you're sharing the bill with Dutch superstar DJ Tiesto, it's clear you've finally made it into international stardom territory.

When he supported Rihanna at the SECC a few years ago, Calvin Harris had a few tricks up his sleeves behind those decks, but he has now taken his showmanship to a whole new level.

Perhaps his Las Vegas residency has played a part in the fact almost every breakdown was like the highest point of the set with confetti cannons followed by lasers, compounded by top-class pyrotechnics, flame throwers and smoke effects.

Dazzling the dance collective into content submission with an artfully chosen set, his collaboration Sweet Nothing with Florence Welch was a fine opener and appeared near the close too in a cyclical manner.

Eat Sleep Rave Repeat and We'll Be Coming Back got the crowd warmed up before an anthemic You've Got the Love started a house-infused sing along. Lesser-known samples from Basement Jaxx, Justive Vs Simian and Breach sat nicely with some of his big hitters, such as I Need Your Love, Bounce and Drinking From the Bottle.

We Found Love, apparently written about Glasgow, saw Harris ask the capacity crowd to join in again while a storming Feel So Close was only inhibited by the pounding echo of the accentuated bass line. After a rousing remix of When You Were Young by The Killers, Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness was mixed into Under Control (complete with power pauses) and finally set the stage for Tiesto to take over the - by now - mental mantle.

Interestingly, Calvin Harris (who made an estimated $46million in 2013) has this year overtaken Tiesto as the world's highest paid DJ and the Greater Than tour is perhaps a nod at this shifting power balance.
