SAM Smith has scored number one on both the official singles chart and albums chart.

His Comic Relief collaboration with John Legend - Lay Me Down - entered the charts straight at number one.

They sold over 105,000 copies according to the Official Charts Company.

It is the singer's fourth number one in less than two years, and Legend's first UK number one.

Proceeds from the track have contributed towards the £78,082,988 raised by Comic Relief so far this year.

It knocked King by Years and Years down to number two after a brief one week spell at the top of the chart.

Sam Smith knocked Noel Gallagher and his band High Flying Birds off the top spot in this week's Official Albums Chart.

His debut album In The Lonely Hour is in the top spot for an eighth week, making it the first album by a male solo artist to achieve six different spells at number one in Official Chart history.
