TEENAGE Fanclub, Squeeze and Alison Moyet will perform at a newly-refurbished Glasgow landmark this summer.

As reported in later editions of yesterday's Evening Times, the Kelvingrove bandstand will host two concert weekends in August, with the Waterboys, Capercaillie and Steve Earle also signed up to play.

The 90-year-old bandstand and amphitheatre in Kelvingrove Park was a popular West End venue before it closed in 1999 after falling into disrepair.

Following a £2 million refurbishment, it has been chosen as the venue for the Magners Summer Nights festival, on August 7-10 and 14-16.

The 2500-capacity bandstand sits opposite Kelvingrove Museum and Gallery.

In the 1980s it drew thousands to performances by Wet Wet Wet and Hue and Cry.

Plans to return it to its former glory received the backing of Glasgow bands Belle and Sebastian and Franz Ferdinand.

The bandstand has now been extended and the decorative work at the front of the stage has been reinstated while the seating area has had new gangways added.

Paul Condron, marketing director for the Magners Summer Nights festival, said: "2014 is an incredible year for Glasgow, a city that rightly enjoys a great reputation for music.

"It's great to see this beautifully-refurbished venue being used for such high-profile events for the people of Glasgow and beyond."

Tickets go on sale on Friday at 9am, from ticketmaster.co.uk or 0844 844 044.
