A GROUP of top Scots musicians are preparing to bring a tribute festival to a close by showcasing their songwriting skills.

Karine Polwart and Midge Ure are two of performers who will play Paisley Town Hall as part of the Celebration of Scottish Songwriting concert.

Organised by Renfrewshire Council, the show on Saturday will also include performances by contemporary and veteran musicians Hamish Stuart, Siobhan Miller, Blue Rose Code and James Grant.

The event forms part of Paisley's Bring It All Home Festival, which pays tribute to the life of locally-born music star Gerry Rafferty.

Each performer will play some of their own songs, as well as pieces by a selection of their favourite songwriters from across the country.

James Grant, of Glasgow band Love and Money, plans to play one of Gerry's songs at his Saturday night show.

James said: "I was asked to get involved and it sounded like a really cool thing to do.

"I am going to do Stuck in the Middle with You, because it's a brilliant song.

"It's one of those tunes I totally love.

"It's not usually the kind of thing I would do, I'm known for more miserable things, so I thought I'd try and confound people."

Councillor Mike Holmes, deputy leader of Renfrewshire Council, said: "Bring it all Home is intended to honour the legacy of Gerry Rafferty - one of Paisley's most famous sons - and the contribution he made to Scottish music.

"As a council we have big plans to use Paisley's considerable cultural and heritage appeal to bring more people to the area, and events like this help to further establish the town as a key destination on Scotland's events map.

"I'm sure the crowd in the Town Hall on Saturday will enjoy seeing a bill of top-class performers pay a unique tribute to Scotland's songwriting collection and the show will be a great way to bring a successful festival to a close."

A Celebration of Scottish Songwriting will take place on April 19 in Paisley Town Hall.
