MUSIC fans are descending on Glasgow in anticipation of the 21st annual Celtic Connections Festival which starts today.

Some of the best-known traditional, jazz, blues, folk and indie musicians will be appearing at the festival, which runs at various city venues until February 2.

Tonight's opening concert, at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, starts at 7.30pm and features multi award-winning Scottish violinist Nicola Benedetti.

She will be performing with Julie Fowlis, Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham as she unveils material from her upcoming Scottish-themed album.

The National Piping Centre's Late Night Sessions start at 11pm - an event that will continue throughout the fesitval.

The Arches hosts indie act Mull Historical Society tomorrow night, while Treacherous Orchestra and Habadekuk are performing at the Old Fruitmarket.

Saturday sees Capercaillie's 30th Anniversary Concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
