The Script will make their first appearance on the Hydro stage in Glasgow this week.

The Irish group, which formed in 2001, will perform to 13,000 fans at the city's newest venue on Thursday, February 19 as part of their UK tour.

To put you in the mood for the gig, here are 20 facts about The Script to impress your mates with at the Hydro.

 

1 The band's music has been used in a variety of TV shows including 90210, Ghost Whisperer, The Hills, Waterloo Road, Eastenders, Made in Chelsea and The Vampire Diaries.

2 Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan have been best friends since they were 12 and were formerly part of a boy band called Mytown, created by X Factor judge Louie Walsh.

3 Mytown signed a $15m deal with Universal Records, with a little help from music lawyer Ken Hertz, after performing at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

4 Mytown's singles Body Pumping and Party All Night received airplay in American and Australia. The band's debut album was set for an international release, however, in-fighting at Universal meant the album was never released in the UK.

5 Danny O'Donoghue and Mark Sheehan have produced songs for performers including Britney Spears, Boys II Men and TLC.

6 The Script recorded a song for Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie called Hail, Rain or Sunshine

7 The song 'If You Could See Me Now' is written in memory of O'Donoghue's father, Shay, who died of a stomach aneurysm in 14 February 2008. A rose tattoo on his left arm commemorates the date.

8 The band's name was inspired by life in Los Angeles.

9 Disenchanted by life in America, O'Donoghue and Sheehan moved to London where they met Glen Power and formed The Script in 2001. However, it would be another seven years before the band's debut album would be released by Sony.

10 In 2009 the band's track The Man Who Can't Be Moved soundtracked the famous Victoria Secret's show.

11 The band sold out 60,000 tickets for their UK and USA tours in 40 minutes following the release of their second studio album Science and Faith.

12 In 2012, following a night out partying, drummer Glen Power nearly fainted in front of 16,000 fans during a gig in Birmingham. Power decided to give up drinking after the show and is now tee-total.

13 The Queen asked to watch the Script play during a BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance. The group played David Bowie's Heroes, however, contentious lyrics in the song meant it had to be given the Royal seal of approval before being performed.

14 The Queen is a fan of The Voice. While waiting to go on stage at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, one of the Queen's aids apparently told the group she was a fan of the BBC show, which Danny is a former judge on.

15 O'Donoghue apparently shared his pay packet for his appearance as a judge on The Voice with his bandmates.

16 In 2014, while heading to a gig in Manchester, the band came to the aid of a motorist who lost control and crashed in front of their tour bus.

17 When O'Donoghue was 17 he accidentally poured wine over U2 guitar legend The Edge.

18 In an interview with the Telegraph, O'Donoghue said he'd taken to wearing Aztec hats, sunglasses and a puffer jacket to avoid unwanted romantic attention and marriage proposals.

19 O'Donoghue beat a host of celebrities including John Legend and Mary J Blige to secure the role of a judge on The Voice.

20 O'Donoghue's rise in popularity during his stint on The Voice meant the band had to turn down tour dates and endorsements because of his schedule.
