Harry Potter and the Cursed Child writer Jack Thorne is joining new TV drama Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K Dick.
The ten-part anthology series will be based on the science fiction novelist’s short stories and will star Oscar-nominated Breaking Bad actor Bryan Cranston.
British screenwriter and playwright Jack wrote the stage play for Cursed Child, based on the story developed in collaboration with Harry Potter author JK Rowling and director John Tiffany.
At a dinner ahead of the Edinburgh International Television Festival, four new writers were unveiled for the sci-fi series.
Others scriptwriters joining the Channel 4 and Sony Pictures Television show include The Night Manager writer David Farr, Matthew Graham, who has scripted Doctor Who, 50 Shades Of Grey screenwriter Kelly Marcel and Tony Grisoni, who adapted Hunter S Thompson’s Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.
Each episode will be a standalone drama, adapted by the team of authors which also includes Outlander’s Ronald D Moore and Masters of Sex’s Michael Dinner.
Philip K Dick was an acclaimed sci-fi author of the 20th century, with novels including Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? – the basis for the film Blade Runner – and The Man in the High Castle.
He also wrote more than 100 short stories before he died at the age of 53 in 1982.
The drama is expected to go into production in early 2017.
