Celebrities have joined together to send their best wishes as A-level students across the country picked up their results today.
Comedian and actor Sir Lenny Henry sat on the clearing office hotline at Birmingham City University – where he acts as Chancellor – to answer calls from prospective entrants.
Speaking on BBC Breakfast on Thursday, he told viewers: “Education is for everybody… even people with the weirdest of results, there’s a place for them.
“One in eight people get university positions from clearing, so you’re not alone if your marks are all over the place and there is probably a place for you.”
The whole cast of ITV soap Coronation Street also reached out with a special video message from actor Rob Mallard, who said: “A-level results day! Hope you got the results you wanted, and even if you didn’t, we still think you’re brilliant.”
Channel 4’s Child Genius host pitched in with: “Good luck to everyone getting their #AlevelResults today. I’ve really tried my best over the years to help you learn the Periodic Table.”
Among other stars to send their best were Dragons’ Den’s Theo Paphitis, radio presenter Tony Blackburn, actresses Kathryn Drysdale and Tina Hobley and Paralympic champion Dame Sarah Storey.
Former chancellor George Osborne, now editor of the Evening Standard newspaper, also weighed in with a comic drawing comparing the A-level results to current Brexit negotiations.
