THE sight of David Hasselhoff sauntering around in a swashbuckling Captain Hook costume alongside his famed talking car KITT certainly provoked a few double takes.

The 63-year-old star of Knight Rider and Baywatch will lead the cast of pantomime Peter Pan at the SECC Clyde Auditorium in Glasgow next month.

David was joined at the official launch by fellow cast members including legendary Scottish comedy duo The Krankies, known for their catchphrase "fandabidozi", and Pop Idol winner, Michelle McManus.

The actor, who revealed that among his first ever roles was playing one of the Lost Boys in Peter Pan, said he was looking forward to performing for a Glasgow audience.

"I like that they are classy, friendly and quite vocal," he said. "They are incredibly responsive."

In fact, David – nicknamed "The Hoff" – is fond of Scotland as a whole.

"Scotland is like me – they never give up," he enthused. "It really is Braveheart and a country that is so unified by the belief there is always hope."

David admitted to being delighted by the prospect of playing a villain.

"It is a great part to play because I'm so full of myself," he said. "The whole show I'm looking in the mirror saying: 'To Hoff or not to Hoff, that is the question.' I'm going to make it fun."

Evening Times columnist Michelle, 35, who has been cast as Mimi the Magical Mermaid, said she was thrilled to be working alongside David and The Krankies aka Janette and Ian Tough.

"If someone had said to me 20 years ago: 'One day you will share a stage with David Hasselhoff and The Krankies,' I would have said: 'No, way,'" she said. "This is the best way to spend Christmas."

Beside her Ian quipped: "Everyone's career goes downhill ..."

The pantomime will feature a spectacular underwater 3D sequence that will take audiences from the comfort of their seats into the depths of the ocean.

Michelle teased that she planned to do some Baywatch-style slow motion running in a red swimsuit along the banks of the Clyde.

"I'm going to give her mouth-to-mouth every night before the show," joked David.

Peter Pan runs at the SECC Clyde Auditorium from December 12 until January 3. For tickets, visit secc.co.uk or call 0844 395 4000.
