Zac Efron could be teaming up with Hugh Jackman for The Greatest Showman On Earth, a 2017 biopic about American showman PT Barnum.

The forthcoming musical take on the businessman, who died aged 80 in 1891, is also being co-produced by X-Men star Hugh, lately seen in Eddie The Eagle.

At this point, Zac’s role in the project has not been made public, but Variety has reported that he is in negotiations.

Zac is no stranger to the world of musicals – he soared to fame in 2006 as Troy Bolton in Disney’s High School Musical alongside Vanessa Hudgens as Gabriella Montez.

A second film premiered in 2007, with High School Musical 3 hitting cinemas in 2008.

Since then, the 28-year-old has been busy consolidating his career as a movie star. Earlier this year, he starred opposite Robert De Niro in Bad Grandpa and recently reprised his role as Teddy Sanders in Bad Neighbours 2: Sonority Rising opposite Seth Rogen.
