Verdict: Five stars

IT'S all about princesses for my three-year-old just now, making it ideal timing for the arrival of Disney On Ice.

The stars of the big screen and countless books had ensured the excitement level in my household was at an all-time high ahead of the show at Braehead Arena.

The magic of Disney doesn't seem to have slowed down over the years and this 100-year special captured the true essence of these amazing characters.

As soon as we entered the arena it was clear we would have no problem keeping our daughter still, which is usually difficult enough for a 10-minute drive.

The show started off with an energetic dance thanks to Mickey Mouse and friends, which had an excited audience on its feet.

This was just for starters with stars from Finding Nemo next up to add a splash of colour to the ice rink and lighting up the faces of youngsters watching on.

The familiar voices of Nemo and Dory complimented the skills on the ice as the Disney characters glided around waving to the crowd.

Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid followed, before the appearance of favourites from Frozen who served up the night's biggest cheer.

The sight of Elsa, Anna and Olaf was enough to have the whole arena in song, with the friendly snowman unsurprisingly receiving the loudest applause.

As the songs from Frozen were belted out, the snow fell on the characters, adding to the excitement for my daughter Sophia as she sang along.

After the interval, Aladdin took centre-stage, with the performers bringing the story to life in style thanks to dozens of genies helping to create an impressive dream sequence.

More big screen favourites followed, and this time it was Toy Story taking over the ice, and of course Buzz Lightyear and Woody stole the show, along with an army of toy soldiers.

The curtain was brought down on the night with the classic The Lion King after an appearance by the characters of the 1998 animation hit, Mulan.

The Lion King proved to be even more popular than Frozen on the night, with Hakuna Matata expertly delivered and performed by the talented cast.

If this glimpse of 100 years of Disney is anything to go by, there's no sign of its popularity fading any time soon.
