THEY are a mighty big pair of shoes to fill but Michelle McManus has said she is ready to take on the challenge of following in the footsteps of Dorothy Paul.

The Evening Times columnist and singer hosts her first solo show at the King's Theatre on Tuesday, followed two days later by doyenne of Scottish comedy Dorothy's last ever one-woman show in the same venue, both part of this year's Glasgow International Comedy Festival.

"Dorothy says she wants to hand the comedy baton over to me, which is just incredible," said Michelle.

"I watched her on TV when I was growing up and have seen her at the Pavilion Theatre. I remember seeing her on stage and thinking, 'How can this lady be so funny?'

"When I was young I thought everyone who was famous had an American accent and here was this woman who just spoke like me and she was so well known.

"We had her one-woman show on VHS and my granny and I used to watch it all the time when I stayed overnight."
