THERE must be something wrong when you feel your career has hit the skids and you are only 18. But that is precisely what happened to Luis Douglas.

The dancer from Prestwick was on the brink of retirement after spending almost 10 years in the competitive ice skating world.

That was, until on a whim he sent a video to Disney and landed himself a place on one of the biggest and most well known ice tours in the world, Disney On Ice.

Luis Douglas, 22, began skating when he was nine at The Centrum in Ayr.

The rising star quickly caught the ice skating bug and went on to represent Great Britain at a number of ice skating competitions. He explained how it was "almost an accident" that he ended up on the popular tour.

He said: "My mum told me to send off the videos.

"I didn't think much of it.

"I sent them off on a Tuesday and on the Thursday Disney contacted me and told me to come for an audition. I couldn't believe it."

Ice skating is a major passion for Luis as he explained:

"I started university for a while but when I got this opportunity I left.

"I didn't see the point in doing something that I didn't love so I decided to take up ice skating full time.

"I love performing in front of big audiences and I'm really looking forward to seeing all the kids' faces light up. It's magical."

Luis is thrilled to be coming home to Glasgow to perform and his friends and family are flocking down the SSE Hydro to watch him take to the ice.

He said: "It's great to finally be performing in Glasgow.

"It's going to be extra special.

"I think everyone I know is coming to see me. My sister is especially excited.

"She is my biggest fan and my hardest critic."

The Academy Award-winning and number one animated feature film of all time Frozen is the major aspect of this Magical Ice Show:

Luis said: "I'm really looking forward to seeing the children's reactions to Frozen.

"There's also going to be a Spanish Web Act where The Little Mermaid is suspended above the ice. It will be so exciting."

As an ice dancer, Luis gets great satisfaction from his job: "I love making people happy.

"When you see that you are entertaining people then the nerves fade away."

The tour, which is already under way, is hosted by Mickey and Minnie and features the Frozen sisters Elsa and Anna along with the hilarious snowman Olaf, mountain-man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven.

PRODUCER Nicole Feld is over the moon about bringing Frozen to the ice.

She said: "The most exciting part of bringing characters like Anna and Elsa to the ice for the first time is knowing that they have a powerful and inspiring message that resonates with audiences."

Characters from hit films such as The Little Mermaid, Tangled and Beauty and the Beast will also make an appearance.

The show entails a mix of Disney stories with energetic choreography and songs.

Second producer Juliette Feld has high hopes for the production.

She said: "By pulling together moments from classic Disney stories to the newest feature film sensation Frozen and combining them with elements of comedy and music, we developed a truly unique way to retell each fairytale."

The cast is made up of around 43 skaters who have already completed a tour of Europe.

Disney On Ice has been running successfully for 34 years and will run over eight productions at

a time.

The show has toured all over the world including places such as the US and Australia.

The ice show has previously taken place in the Braehead Arena but will make its debut at the SSE Hydro.

The production has received years of praise for its spectacular performances.

Previous shows include 100 years of Magic, Worlds of Fantasy and Magical Ice Festival.

lDisney On Ice is playing at the SSE Hydro from Thursday until Sunday.
