Stuart Sandler's verdict: five stars

Our first experience of a live show for our 20-month-old daughter had finally arrived in the form of Disney On Ice at Glasgow's SSE Hydro Arena.

Mickey, Minnie and friends ensured a packed house with youngsters of all ages buzzing with excitement as their favourites were brought to life on the ice.

The Disney phenomenon of Frozen was of course not left out from the show, much to the relief of the children dressed up as the sisters Elsa and Anna.

Other Disney delights included characters from The Little Mermaid, Tangled and Beauty and the Beast.

Our concerns whether daughter Sophia would buck her current trend of not staying still for more than two minutes were quickly eased as she watched in awe as the Disney stars took to the ice and bopped her head to the music.

She was mesmerised as she continually scanned the ice to make sure she didn't miss a second of the performance.

Even the parents were grinning and clapping their hands along to the memorable tunes from Disney's classic movies, particularly Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid, which resonated childhood memories for many of the audience.

The stars on the ice made the impossible look so easy, with precision and eye-catching moves that were difficult not to admire.

To skate around dressed in a bulky costume, such as Flounder from The Little Mermaid, the performers showed no signs of it being a hindrance as they glided with ease on the ice.

The biggest cheer of the night was saved for Frozen with Kristoff and reindeer Sven receiving the sort of welcome a top band would have appreciated.

Elsa and Anna fans were made to feel part of the story as their favourite characters waved at them as they danced and joined in with the singing as the characters skated around the rink.

The impressive Hydro Arena proved to be a perfect home for this ice spectacular and the captivated youngsters appeared to all love every minute of the night's entertainment.

Judging by the excitement from Sophia and other children in the venue, Disney will never be short of fans.

It's clear to see why the ice extravaganza has managed to run successfully for 34 years all over the world.

Many, many more years are guaranteed to follow if the shows are as enjoyable this one.

The Frozen soundtrack looks set to continue for a long time yet in my household.
