Comedian Rory Bremner has called for more humour to be injected into the Scottish independence debate.

Mr Bremner, who was born in Edinburgh, said the subject was too important to be "left in the hands of politicians".

The impressionist is used to making fun of politics at Westminster but has turned his attention to Scotland.

He said: "There's a lot of big, different characters involved and good arguments and there are plenty good Scottish comedians who can have plenty of fun with it."
