Former Hollyoaks star Gemma Atkinson is heading to Emmerdale and will be on screen from March.

The actress will play Carly, the estranged daughter of Bob Hope (Tony Audenshaw), who was previously played in the long-running rural ITV soap by Rebecca Ryan.

Atkinson, best known for playing Lisa Hunter in Hollyoaks, starts filming this month and her character is set to stir up trouble for Bob and his partner Brenda (Lesley Dunlop).

She said: "I am absolutely thrilled to be joining the cast of Emmerdale and I cannot wait to see what's in store for Carly. I hope you all enjoy watching her story unfold."

Emmerdale producer Kate Oates said: "I'm delighted to welcome Gemma to the cast. Her character Carly is sure to liven things up for Bob and Brenda and anyone who crosses her path."
