Squeaky-clean Disney child stars have a habit of going off the rails in their later years.

We always thought Hilary Duff - who married at just 22 to former NHL player Mike Comrie and has a two year old son Luca - managed to avoid the trappings of glamorous celebrity life - but it turns out she was a bit of a 'bad girl' in her youth herself.

In an interview with Time magazine, the 27 year old actress and singer discusses her new role in comedy series Younger, and admits that she used to sneak into clubs with her big sister Haylie when she was underage - even though the bouncers knew she was not yet 21.

She said: "She learned the ropes for me and then I got to just sneak in. Super naughty! Naughty, naughty. A fake ID would never work for me because they'd be like, 'We know who you are.' I think I had my sister's old ID…I can't even remember having to use it. Who knows."

"I used to lie about my age to get into clubs and stuff… but I think they would all know how old I was anyway," she dished. "I was pretty well-known by the time I was trying to get into clubs, and they would just let me in anyway."

Life certainly seems to imitate art then - as the 27 year old former Lizzie McGuire star now plays Kelsey Peters, a 20-something hotshot trying to make it in the publishing industry with her friends in New York.

Created by the producer who brought Sex and the City into our lives, the new, edgy series Younger focuses on female issues in a humorous way - featuring them drinking at parties and getting high on drugs.

Hilary hopes the new move will help her shed the wholesome, innocent image she garnered in her Disney years, saying: "There's definitely a stereotype because of my past, starting so young and people growing up with me. But I think the show felt like a step in the right direction."

The pilot episode is already on Amazon, but the show is airing on March 31 on US channel TV Land. We hope it reaches our shores soon!
