Ed Sheeran has been 'in talks' with TV bosses to appear in the sixth series of Game of Thrones.

The A Team hitmaker says he is a big fan of the show and wanted to star in it, but touring has always got in the way of filming.

"There were talks ages ago of me being an extra, which could have been cool," Ed told The Sun newspaper.

But I've got that time off this year, so I'm going to hound them."

Maisie Williams, the 18-year-old actress who plays Arya Stark in the hit series, says she is a massive fan of the singer - and went to watch his set at Glastonbury - so he would be in good company if he landed a spot.

On Ireland's Late Late Show last October, she said: "When I was a bit younger, Game of Thrones wasn't as big as it was now, he tweeted about the show and said that he was a fan. For me, that was the most amazing thing ever.

"So, I tweeted him and told him that I really like his music. He didn't reply for a little while as he didn't see my tweet, but he got back to me a week later, and it was just the most amazing thing ever."

Maisie added: "Since then we've kind of tweeted each other. "

If he makes an appearance, he will be joining the likes of Coldplay drummer Will Champion and Snow Patrol frontman Gary Lightbody, who had cameo roles in the fantasy show in 2013.
