Whether we admit it or not, most of us harboured a crush on someone that we should maybe just keep to ourselves.

Sometimes we fancy certain famous people because there's just that something about them that makes them unconventionally attractive.

Others are, to put it simply, just downright wrong.

We asked people on social media for their weirdest celebrity crushes - be it men, women or cartoon animals and their reasons why.

There were some men and women put forward that were completely acceptable but just a bit older - like presenter Philip Schofield, chef Nigella Lawson and TV personality Simon Cowell.

Gordon Ramsay cropped up a few times, as "he can cook a fine feast and is a man who knows what he wants" - but rival chef Marco Pierre White was a surprise.

A few girls said they fancied Scots actors John Barrowman and Alan Cumming, even though they are quite camp.

"Hairy men" seemed to be a creeping trend with the ladies too - like TV daredevil Guy Martin with his long sideburns and Brendan Fraser in George of the Jungle.

Worryingly, many people found cartoon characters attractive. Disney heroines like Meg from Hercules are borderline acceptable, but Nala from the Lion King?!

I'm told "it's all about the eyes and her devotion to Simba" but it's still weird.

Disney's Aladdin also sparked agreement, for his "cheeky street-rat charm".

The most disturbing object of lust in the cartoon category was Lady Rainicorn from Adventure Time; cited because "she makes me want to learn Japanese more than ever... and she's bendy." Wow.

One particularly embarrassing crush was porn star king Ron Jeremy - as famous for his 'tache as his bedroom antics. He even has rum named after him.

However, Lord Alan Sugar, Tim Curry - but only from the Rocky Horror Show - and Alec Baldwin also raised a few eyebrows.

There were a few guilty crushes on Tory politicians - even though they admitted their "political views are really right-wing and awful."

Esther McVey and Nadine Dorries were deemed fanciable - with one person describing Dorries as a 'milf' and Margaret Thatcher even got a mention because she had 'good legs.'

However, no-one agreed with my weird crush, Ed Miliband, which was slightly awkward.
