Broadcaster STV has been awarded licences to deliver local television for Aberdeen, Dundee and Ayr.

The channels will provide local news and current affairs content and will run in partnership with college and university students.

It means STV now has five local TV licences in Scotland and follows on from the existing services covering Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Bobby Hain, director of channels, said: "STV is committed to delivering local content for viewers in Scotland and the award today of three additional TV licences will serve to complement our existing STV family of broadcast, online and mobile services.

"Local TV is a long-term commitment for STV and we look forward to working with our education partners in Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee to deliver these new services."

The services will be delivered in partnership with Robert Gordon University and North East Scotland College in Aberdeen and the University of the West of Scotland in Ayr. Abertay University and Dundee and Angus College will also take part.

STV Glasgow launched in June 2014 and the Edinburgh channel went on air in January this year.
