TV presenter Susanna Reid had to apologise to viewers who tuned into Good Morning Britain today - after one of its guests swore live on air.

Reid and guest host Piers Morgan were interviewing French daredevil climber Alain Robert, who is known as "the French Spiderman", on the ITV show when he dropped the f-word.

Robert, who climbs skyscrapers with his bare hands and without using a safety net, left Reid stunned when, speaking via a video-link from Dubai, he said that his ascents make him feel "feel that I am f***** alive".

After Morgan laughed, Reid replied: "OK ... slightly more frank language at this time in the morning than we're normally used to on Good Morning Britain so apologies for that."

Morgan, who is standing in for presenter Ben Shephard for the week, said: "Did he just use the ...?", to which Reid replied: "Well, I think we'll just gloss over that, apologies."

Producers told viewers on Twitter: "Apologies for the slightly colourful language used by Alain on the show this morning."

Viewer Eamonn Murray wrote on Twitter: "@GMB has he stopped swearing yet? I'm still mopping up cornflakes here!!"

Gail Hatton wrote: "@GMB funniest thing so far."

The swearing began when Morgan asked: "You've done 100 big climbs now, skyscrapers. How many times have you thought in all those times 'I might die here'?"

Robert replied: "Well, many times. But the thing is, as long as you're not falling ... It's just like a f****** warning, like you're nearly falling but you're not falling ... I'm quite good at just doing that kind of stuff, just saving my ass."

Morgan continued with the interview before Robert swore for a second time, saying: "You know I need to feel pretty much dead to feel that I am f****** alive."

Morgan later told him: "You go and recover now from your latest climb and we are going to try to recover from your choice use of language, which is a little alarming for us at this time in the morning."

A Good Morning Britain spokesman said: "We apologise for Alain Robert's use of inappropriate language on the show this morning. Presenter Susanna Reid also apologised on-air to viewers."

The words are being blanked out of the programme on ITV+1 and ITV Player.
