The BBC has signed up current and former hosts of The Voice to front a new gameshow it hopes will pull in viewers to the primetime Saturday night slot.

Emma Willis and Reggie Yates will present Prized Apart, which pitches 10 contestants against each other in "a range of gruelling challenges" around the world.

The lowest-scoring competitors are flown back to the UK where their partners go head-to-head to see which one stays in the game and who is sent home.

Willis said the show will be "nail-biting, emotional and full of energy".

She said: "I'll be there with the partners in the studio as they watch their loved ones go through their hellish challenges in mystery locations abroad. It should be lots of fun to see how far the contestants will go for their loved ones. I can't wait to get stuck in."

BBC bosses hope the show, which starts in spring, will be more of a success than some of its previous attempts to develop a light entertainment hit, which include flops such as the patriotic quiz I Love My Country.

BBC1 controller Charlotte Moore said: "Emma and Reggie are the perfect team to host our new game-changing Saturday night adventure show - they will bring heart and emotion both inside the studio and out."
