There are some weeks when MSPs just set themselves up for criticism.

The decision by most of them not to turn up for work at Holyrood on Tuesday because of a Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) strike will not be understood by many people who have no option but to cross picket lines if they want to hold on to their jobs.

Committees were cancelled despite assurances from the Parliament’s authorities that they would be resourced in the normal way.

The strike put Labour MSPs in a curious position. They didn’t cross the picket line but the strike was called because of the UK’s Labour Government policy.
