"WE'VE done it at last!" was the cheer from the Jack family, who have been our dedicated team of training diary volunteers during the Evening Times' 10-week countdown to the big race.

On Saturday, Eilidh, Morven and Douglas put in a splendid performance in the 3K Junior Run at Glasgow Green, with their proud dad Malcolm - who has been rallying the troops during their strenuous 10-week training schedule - cheering them on.

And on Sunday, it was the turn of Malcolm, his brother Graham, their mum Christine and Malcolm's eldest son, Calum, who has just turned 17, to show what they were made of.

"Although I do a lot of running, this is the first event I've ever done, and it was quite strange with all those people, though it helps push you on," said Malcolm.

"I had to dodge a few at the start, but I was quite near the front and the Kingston Bridge wasn't too jam-packed when I crossed. And it's great when you see people you know shouting for you!"

Graham said: "I would be tempted to do it again. I started slower than normal, so when I got to the end I had energy left."

Christine said she was just delighted to have had the stamina to make it round the 10K.

"I didn't break any records! But it was good, especially with the drummers playing and the crowds out cheering, it kept you going."

And she said her husband Bill, a keen half-marathon runner, was really disappointed that he was unable to take part, after struggling with a stomach bug all week.

"It was his idea for us all to do it, and it's a shame he had to miss out today, but he was too ill."

But she added: "We've all enjoyed taking part as the diary family - and I'm planning to keep on running!"
