MEMORIES: Clydebank has its Royal wedding gift all sewn up

THE Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh today celebrate 60 years of marriage.

The young Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten was just getting used to his new royal role when today's picture was taken back in 1947.

With the wedding just three weeks away, Princess Elizabeth and her future husband travelled to Clydebank to launch the liner Caronia at the John Brown yard.

They also stopped by at the town hall to receive the town's wedding present a Singer sewing machine.

They seem delighted with the gift, though no doubt the wedding dress was already made by then!
