MEMORIES: Catamaran kids set course to ram their paddling pals

The man-made loch at Strathclyde Park proved a popular spot when the sun shone back in 2002. These boys seemed fascinated by this speedboat as it went up and down the water.

KIDS and water, they love it - so said Rolf Harris in his much parodied learn to swim public information film of the 1970s, and it was as true in 1964 as it is today.

Back then, the first blink of sun sent these kids scurrying to the boating pond in Dennistoun's Alexandra Park where, for a few pence, they could take to the water to play pirates.

Two-man catamarans were the chosen craft, offering more speed than the lumbering, hand cranked paddle boats - ideal ramming your opponents' craft.

Damp breeks and pruned fingers were a small price to pay for such wet and wild fun.
