HOLIDAYS have always followed a rhythm, even in Victorian times.

If the weather is good you head for the beach; if not so good, it's time for a walk on the prom.

Reader Terry Primrose of Strathaven sent in these pictures, taken in the 1800s by his grandfather, at West Bay in Dunoon.

The trio of girls on the right are obviously on the prowl for a handsome beau, while the family on the left are probably heading back to their guest house for high tea and telling their son he can't have a kite, water pistol - you name it.

We may have forsaken the Costa del Clyde, but we can't escape the rhythm of holiday life.
