BALORNOCK looks more like Brooklyn in this nighttime image of the Red Road Flats.

Designed in 1962 by architect Sam Bunton for Glasgow Corporation, the flats were constructed between 1964 and 1969. The eight high rise blocks - two slabs', much wider in cross-section than they are deep, and six points' - were designed to house 4700 people.

Plans are now in place to demolish the blocks and replace them with low-level housing.

Trouble is, due to the flats' construction, including high levels of asbestos, it will take longer to dismantle them than it took to build them an estimated seven years.
