LOOKING like extras from the Da Vinci Code, members of the Order of St John of Jerusalem, led by their sword bearer, process from Glasgow Cathedral to Provand's Lordship at the top of the High Street.

Claiming their origins from the Knights Hospitaller, a Christian crusading order founded in Malta, today's adherents are better known as the St John Ambulance Service.

The High Street was well-used to such processions, with nearby Rottenrow probably taking its name from Routine Row, a route along which the medieval cathedral's monks would process to their prayers.
