The Krankies enjoyed their Glasgow panto comeback so much that they are back for more, entertaining kids with the same routines their parents first laughed at...

They might have been treading the boards for more than 40 years, but last December marked a milestone for The Krankies.

It was the first time the duo had returned to the Glasgow stage since Janette's 2004 accident which left her with a fractured skull after falling from a 20ft 'beanstalk' while performing at The Pavilion.

Their come-back saw them star in Aladdin, at the SECC, with Glasgow-born entertainer John Barrowman – and they say they couldn't believe the reaction on opening night.

Ian, said: "It was like the Hampden roar. You just forget how much they loved you and the warmth for you. It was great.

Janette, said: "It was a good, fun time, and John's fantastic.

"The press said very nice things as well. They said 'The Krankies have been reborn to a new generation'.

"That was one of the things we loved. It meant the children were still laughing at the things that their parents used to laugh at."

The married duo, better known as Janette and Ian Tough, both 64, will return to the venue this Christmas, again with John, 44, in all-new show, Robinson Crusoe and the Caribbean Pirates.

They say it's set to be their most spectacular panto yet, with an on-stage ship, a 30ft sea monster, a giant turtle, as well as the return of 3D action.

And of course Janette's alter-ego, schoolboy Jimmy Krankie will be back, plus the audience will get a taste of her other legendary spoofs.

Last year she transformed into Susan Boyle, Lady Gaga, and a remarkably life-like Ozzy Osbourne.

So who should be worried this year?

Janette, said: "I might do Katy Perry. I think John and I might do Jedward."

However last year's version of their famous ventriloquist skit, where Janette sits on Ian's knee and is flung about like a doll could be under threat – unless Ian gets down the gym.

Janette, said: "That's why Ian's going to the gym at the moment. He kept blaming me for his sciatic nerve going but I think it was actually his weight, not the nerve."

The couple, who met at Glasgow's Pavilion in 1966, split their time between a home in Devon and another in Tweed Heads, on Australia's Gold Coast.

When back in Glasgow Janette admits she still likes to pop into Fraser's.

A visit to the Amber Regent restaurant is also a must – but they won't be going to any Chinese restaurants with co-star John, after a mishap last year.

Janette, said: "He's allergic to prawns and one day the show was running late, so the company manager went to a Chinese and got some food for us.

John had some won ton soup and there was a prawn in it, so he had buckets at the side of the stage, because he thought he was going to be sick.

"Then of course he was ill with swine flu. It was so bad he had to use a nebuliser every time he went off stage."

The pair got their big break appearing on the 1974 Royal Variety show and went on to perform in the TV shows Crackerjack, Krankies Klub and Krankies Elektronic Komic. But they have no plans to retire.

However, despite their successful career they say there's one thing which seems to have alluded them – acclaim in Edinburgh.

Ian said: "I actually maybe would have liked to have done a panto in Edinburgh. It's the one place we've never been asked."

Janette added: "I remember we got asked to open the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, the manager said we'd be the closing act on the opening night.

"An Edinburgh councillor said we were 'only fit for a back green concert at (housing scheme) Craigmillar.'

"He said they should have got The Three Tenors."

However, there's still plenty of love for the comic couple in other places, and it's no wonder the hilarious pair have been asked onto every celebrity reality show going – including Wife Swap.

And while Ian's not interested, 4ft 5ins Janette confesses she fancies a stint on Strictly Come Dancing.

She said: "I would quite like to do that. Though I think I'd have to dance with Ronnie Corbett."
