He’s from Glasgow, he’s talented - and he’s about to rock the very foundations of the Scottish music scene.
And Kris Tennant – one of fastest rising stars on the indie music scene – is promising to take his home city by storm when he performs at the O2 Academy later this month.
The Carmyle-born singer has already sold out a number of venues in Glasgow, including Nice n Sleazy, Pivo Pivo and Box, but the 22-year-old believes his next performance will provide a “real step-up” in the music business.
Kris said: “This gig is going to be a really big deal and I hope it will be the leg-up that I need to get signed. I’m going to give it my best shot.”
A former Performing Arts and Musical Theatre student at Coatbridge College, Kris has loved music for as long as he can remember. With songs entitled Still Thinking of You, Things are Looking Up and Play the Hand You’re Given, Kris says his music reflects his own life.
“My songs are personal. They’re all about love, loss and the wish to be something more. My music is much indie-based but there is a real folk feel to it too, I don’t tend to stick to the one genre. I’ve been influenced by loads of different artists, from Rufus Wainwright to The Libertines.”
Sarah Jane Rothwell, Kris’s former tutor at Coatbridge College, said: “I’m delighted to hear about Kris’s success. I’m proud that we were able to prepare him for the raft of experiences he’s faced.
“Playing such a high profile venue is a fantastic opportunity. We wish him the best for his future career.”
The gig, which takes place on Saturday night, will see Kris perform with a full band.
Looking to the future, Kris already has plans to take his career to the next level: “I’m really eager to get into the recording studio with the guys in the band and put a serious demo together. At the moment, all my demos are acoustic, so it will be good to get something down that really reflects what I can do.”
He added: “I’m really geared up for the home crowd and can’t wait for the gig at the O2 Academy. I always give it my best, but this performance is going to be extra special.”
