LETTERS – Customer shortage

I was shopping in Cumbernauld town centre on Sunday and was shocked by the lack of customers.

I fully expected the place to be heaving but it was the complete opposite, which, while it meant I could zip round the shops, it can't be good news for the retailers.

I had been reading that this was supposed to have been the busiest weekend of the year and that shops make most of their money in the next few weeks coming up to Christmas to tide them over the following year.

Well, if that's the case then I can imagine a few more will be closing up.

I see Glasgow City Council has fallen asleep at the wheel again this year.

Three days of snow and roads in Knightswood untouched. I don't know about the rest of the city as I and many others are confined to our streets.

At least our corner shop has had the good sense to grit its front.

IT was interesting to read your story about the new Bridgeton Library (Evening Times, December 3), now housed inside the refurbished Olympia Centre.

It's my local library and I could see the work was going on to move from the old Landressy Street site, but I wasn't sure when the big day was. I'll look forward to going for a look around, especially at the new Times Past cafe!

IT'S long overdue that someone pointed out the terrible situation with wasted food (Evening Times, December 3).

When I was a girl, many, many years ago, we wouldn't have dreamed of chucking away food like families do today.

I blame a lack of education as much as anything. Kids aren't taught proper Home Economics any more, so they don't know how to make the most of leftovers.
