Only last year it was agreed that an alternative option of a bridge at this site was unaffordable and SPT said it planned to bring in a new ferry to service this route. So what has happened since then?

Councillor Alistair Watson, SPT chairman, has been vociferous in his attacks on the SNP government for cancelling the Glasgow Airport Rail Link and, in a moment of political spite has decided to attack SNP-controlled Renfrewshire Council by removing the Renfrew Ferry service.

SPT is dominated by Labour councillors and this decision will be seen as Labour attacking a vital public service.

As for the comments by MPs Jim Murphy and Jim Sheridan, instead of trying to blame someone else for this decision, why don’t they hold up their hands and admit that if there is a funding problem it is entirely due to the economic incompetence of the UK Labour government.

No rest for binmen over festive break

I Was interested to read Mr Booth’s letter praising the lads who have been out gritting our road -- sadly but predictably he missed out the Glasgow binmen who unlike the park boys didn’t have two weeks’ holiday over Christmas.

There were also gritter men who were in their lorries nice and warm, while binmen were dragging bins through ice and snow all day and had just two days off!

So well done to the Glasgow binmen, keep up the good work.

Reader’s picture is simply beautiful

I would just like to comment on how beautiful the picture is in today’s paper taken from the top of Old Kilpatrick Hills.

Congratulations to Scott McIntosh for taking the picture. It is truly a site to behold. Well done sir!

Disappointment over blood donation rules

In reply to SJ’s letter (January 12) in which she states she is more than happy with a cup of tea or coffee after her giving blood.

I too would be happy with that, but as a gay man, I am not able to receive my free tea or coffee as I am not allowed to give a blood donation.

Can someone please explain to me in this day and age, when sexually transmitted diseases are more prevalent among “straight people” and when blood donations are at an all time low, why this is still the case?

I know for a fact that 99.9% of gay people in Glasgow would be more than happy to give a blood donation.

No-one should point finger at parents

Looking over all the evidence regarding Madeleine McCann’s disappearance -- no-one, and I mean no-one can point the finger at Gerry and Kate in my opinion.

If they had anything to do with the abduction of their wee girl, do you think they would be still going on about her disappearance all this time? I don’t think so.

Cold snap proving a nightmare for roads

I was interested to read the article about thawing ice causing extensive damage to the city’s roads (Evening Times, January 14).

It is getting to a point where you have to change lane to avoid the potholes which are appearing in city roads. It’s getting beyond a joke.
