OPINION: A night for winners making a better city

THE Evening Times' Streets Ahead campaign has captured the imagination of communities across the city.

A wide variety of projects have been started, improving open spaces, community facilities and –just as importantly – seeing local people taking ownership of projects in their area.

The campaign has got people young and old involved, looking to see how they can make their own part of the city better and then going for it.

It would not be possible without the support of the campaign partners, City Charitable Trust, Glasgow Housing Association, Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Glasgow City Council, who share our ambition to improve the city community by community.

But the key to the campaign success is the people at community level who have driven it forward and who last night were recognised in the Streets Ahead Awards.

Congratulations to all our winners but also to everyone who got involved in their own project, and who have seen the benefits of community action and engaging with authorities who have the resources and expertise to help get things done.

It's thanks to those who took up the challenge, that Streets Ahead has been a big success and has started to change Glasgow for the better street by street.
