IT is less than two years to go before the opening ceremony and the countdown to Glasgow 2014 is well and truly on.

The venues across the city are on track and some like the Emirates Arena and the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in the east end are already open.

The organising committee is going full steam ahead to make sure Glasgow hosts a successful Commonwealth Games that will be remembered for a long time to come and the efforts to ensure the city sees a health, sport, housing and transport legacy are ongoing.

Now it is time for the people of Glasgow to play their part and sign up to volunteer at the Games to ensure they run as smoothly as possible.

A range of posts will need to be filled and the scale of organising the event means there will almost certainly be something to fit the skills of most people.

Around 15,000 people are needed and as the London Olympics showed the Games just cannot take place without volunteers and their dedication.

It may be almost two years away but places need to be filled well in advance, so the organisers need to hear from people who want to take part soon.

So, if you want to be a part of the biggest sporting event to hit the city, and who wouldn't get signed up now.
