The School Crossing Patroller, lollipop man or woman to you and me, the Home Carer and the people who are working in the places we go to enjoy our leisure time.

Many of them work for the council-owned firm Cordia and fill a huge variety of roles, often in roles which are aimed at ensuring people, especially the young and old, are safe and well.

We've had the glitz and the glam of the Oscars and Golden Globes in Hollywood fantasy land heaping yet more accolades on those who are already celebrated and financially rewarded.

So it is good to see some of the people who really make a difference in people's day-to-day lives in our communities having their own moment of recognition for going that little bit further.

In their modesty the winners will no doubt say they are only doing their job, just like everyone else, which is true.

It is also true that many of them, in only doing their job, enable others to go out and do their job safe in the knowledge their child will get to school or their elderly parent is being cared for.

So, well done to all those nominated, thanks, and have a great evening.
