PEOPLE in Glasgow are voting with their feet and walking into the city's sports and leisure centres, libraries and cultural venues.

The Glasgow Life report is welcome news that more people of all ages are using the facilities that will help keep our citizens, active, healthier and better informed.

Glasgow is receiving a boost with new and improved sports facilities for swimming, athletics, bowls, cycling and many other sports as a result of hosting the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The challenge facing the authorities is to ensure that everyone who wants to get involved in sport is able to do so, with top quality facilities available in communities open to all as well as the world class venues we are seeing like the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Emirates Arena.

Politicians were warned recently that Scotland was not fully able to cope with the demand for sport following the Olympics with a shortage of coaches and insufficient facilities.

From now until the Games and beyond it is hoped and expected that more people will take part in sport and is therefore crucial these warnings are acted upon.

Glasgow has an opportunity like never before to inspire a generation to be fitter and healthier. That simply must be grasped, and the investment made to ensure it continues.
