OPINION: Time to help Police smash the gangs

THE early morning knock on the door yesterday is a rude awakening for gang thugs everywhere and also a wake-up call to all others involved in violence.

Two weeks after a mass fight where three young men were seriously injured, four teenagers were arrested and will now face trial.

But while gang thugs continue to boast of their exploits the police will investigate, look to bring people to justice and help stop the violence.

There are many communities across Glasgow and the west of Scotland where gang violence occurs and sadly in some cases it is accepted as a fact of life.

That doesn't need to be the case and communities, by assisting in police investigations, can help stamp it out.

Fewer young men murdered, maimed, scarred for life, fewer families destroyed and futures still to live for is the reward for eradicating gang culture and every family would surely welcome that.

More co-operation and successful investigations to send the message that violence will not be tolerated should mean in the future we will need fewer dawn raids.

That is something really worth fighting for.
