OPINION: Winners show their champion spirit

THE people of the South West of Glasgow turned out in numbers to say a well-earned 'thank you' to our Community Champion awards winners.

Young and old, individually and in teams we saw finalists who are helping to make a difference for people in their communities.

A variety of projects and campaigns were among the finalists and all were more than worthy of our thanks, and the awards went to a highly dedicated group of people.

Craigton Residents Action Group decided that they would live up to their name and not just ask others for help so created their own community garden.

Robert Melvin and Flora Pagan were both honoured for their long-standing commitment to their communities with the senior award, still working hard into their eighties.

She has a long way to go to match her elders, but Evanna Lynas won the young award for her commitment representing her peers on the Scottish Youth Parliament.

The South West awards showed again the wealth of talent and dedication in the area and their winners add to the list of finalists for the Glasgow-wide awards ceremony at the City Chambers.

To every one who was nominated congratulations – and a very big thank you.
