The economic effect for those whose businesses depend on being on the road is seriously damaging.
Taxi drivers are the obvious victims, where costly repairs can wipe out a days takings.
But other small businesses, from florists to takeaways, which rely on transporting goods are suffering as a result of the craters.
The council must do more to ensure the roads are in better state, with quick, effective repairs.

African centre welcome in city

The area celebrates the wealth creation of merchants like the tobacco lords, so it is right we also remember the role slavery played in their success.
We can’t change the past but we can ensure our history is reflected accurately, which means accepting the more shameful facts too.
