The Leadership for Life courses in memory of Mark Scott are benefiting many young people across the city.

By taking responsibility for helping others in the community the pupils are learning to grow up into good citizens.

Mark’s life was ended tragically and needlessly by an evil killer, when the teenager had so much to look forward to.

It is a testament to the character of his parents that they set up this scheme in Mark’s memory to allow other young people the opportunities to grow that he was denied.

Well done to all who took part and who set up the courses, and it is to be hoped that many more will participate in the future.

Be brave, speak up for rail link

Councillor John McNamee has taken a brave decision to quit the SNP in protest over the plan to scrap the airport rail link.

It is ironic that the only party member to publicly break ranks is not from the city that would benefit most from the project.

His decision should encourage others who recognise the government is wrong to speak out.

Glasgow’s SNP MSPs don’t need to quit, just use their budget vote to stand up for their city.
