Doctor Margo Whiteford’s story is one of remarkable courage and a determination to refuse to let a disability hold her back.

Not only did she cope with growing up with Spina Bifida, and become a senior doctor at Yorkhill, she also found the drive and energy to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

Dr Whiteford is yet another an outstanding Scotswoman of the Year, who has overcome personal barriers and then given so much to others.

She joins a long list of inspirational women who have taken this prestigious title.

Last night her parents told how proud they were of their daughter.

Now the rest of Scotland shares that pride.

Water bus plan could be answer

Sadly the Renfrew Ferry has to be axed because, it is no longer economically viable.

The remarkable floating bus proposed by Stagecoach looks like it could be a suitable replacement.

This service could be much more than the novelty it first seems, and running on land and water, need not be restricted to the Yoker-Renfrew route.

This trial must be given every chance to discover if the business case stacks up.
