The pledge to spend millions of extra pounds in the next year repairing potholes will be welcome news to everyone in Glasgow.
The council has accepted this problem can’t be sorted with repeated patch-up jobs and is now committed to putting up money to help repair the damage.
But the Scottish Government also needs to take some responsibility and introduce legislation to help cash-strapped councils to fund such significant investments.
The future of our roads must be protected and utility firms must not be allowed to continue digging roads and carrying out shoddy repairs without paying their share.
And if they don’t do it voluntarily, the Government must force them to.
We can make our city miles fitter
Politicians and health groups are right to recognise the difference the Evening Times’ Glas-goals campaign can make.
Improving our city’s health is a major job, but by working together and providing a support network it can be done.
The aims of the campaign are achievable and will make a difference to thousands of lives.
It also makes a statement that Glasgow is getting fitter and healthier by the day.
