Glasgow has a reputation for drinking too much alcohol, unhealthy eating and high levels of smoking, and it shows in our health statistics.
Too many children are already following the same pattern and are storing up life-threatening problems for later in adulthood.
But we can do something about it, together as a city, and make 2010 the year Glasgow fought back to health.
It is for adults to set them an example, and break the depressing generational cycle of declining health.
Our city’s past has been blighted by the sick man of Europe tag, but now is the time to cast that label off and look forward to a healthier future.
Keep focus on good behaviour
The drop in exclusions from Glasgow schools is a welcome sign that discipline is moving in the right direction.
However it must not be forgotten that there is still far too many children whose behaviour is preventing them from getting the full benefit of an education.
Education staff have been successful in this area, and this good work must be continued year on year to help even more children reach their potential.
