At last, common sense has prevailed. They are a menace and should have been controlled years ago.

Now our kids will be a lot safer from those morons who think they are Al Capone.

Justice Minister Kenny MacAskill deserves praise for getting these weapons off our streets.

And we need to get a lot tougher with anyone who flouts the new laws. If caught, their punishment should be severe.

Faith in politics

I COULDN'T agree less with your correspondent Jill Ferguson's views regarding the idea that politics and religion do not mix.

The opposite is in fact the case.

What people do not understand is that religious people have to live with the results of political decisions made by secular politicians.

Therefore ,we have the right to get involved in politics if we see fit –if for no other reason than to have our voices heard over prejudiced and discriminatory people.

Ward is great

MOST of the things we hear about the NHS these days are negative.

But I would like to praise Glasgow's Royal Infirmary, where I recently had an overnight stay in ward 49.

The staff could not have been more helpful or reassuring, from nurses and porters to the surgeon.

The food was excellent, the ward clean and I will never be scared about being in hospital again.

FORGET whether the new 60p first class post is value for money.

Last week I paid £1 to send a large-format birthday card to my daughter in Dundee.

It arrived on Wednesday – exactly one week later!

Not even second class, I would say!
