I RECENTLY visited Edinburgh and noticed the Olympic Rings on the Mound.

Why are these rings displayed in the traditional Olympic colours, while the rings we have in Glasgow's George Square are just plain old metal?

They are dull in comparison – so shame on whoever made the decision to have these rings in George Square.

I believe we deserve better.

My cynical nature tells me that this is a budget issue on the part of Glasgow City Council.

Maybe someone can tell me whether I am right.

ALEX Salmond claims Scots should not support Olympic Team GB but instead support Scots athletes whom he calls "Scolympians".

He is making Scotland look stupid, petty and obsessed with hating the English.

He said this will be the last ever Team GB as Scotland will be independent in two years.

That remains to be seen

Glasgow

LAST night while dining out in Glasgow city centre I saw two undesirables walking up a lane, counting a large wad of pound notes and muttering something about tourists.

I wonder how many of the valued visitors to the city have become victims to these predators – I have never seen any statistics showing this figure.

Glasgow is a friendly city but it is obvious that some people need to be swept offthe streets to make them safer.

IT was great see the Evening Times' 'sneak preview' pictures of the new Hydro Arena yesterday.

It will be an amazing addition to the Clyde waterfront and another eye-catching structure to go with the Clyde Audit-orium – or Armadillo as it ended up being called.

I wonder what nickname the Glasgow wags will come up with for the Hydro?
